Woongjin Chemical held an opening ceremony for the expansion of its membrane and filter production facility on December 4th, 2003 Gumi, South Korea.

The expansion of the manufacturing line is a response to meet the ever-increasing demand for liquid filtration and separation filters and membrane elements in today's global water shortage crisis.

Woongjin Chemical's reverse osmosis membrane element manufacturing capacity has quadrupled from 2 million to 8 million square meters per year. As a result, Woongjin Chemcial now ranks third in the world for manufacturing capacity of RO membrane elements, behind Dow Chemical and Hydranautics of the US.

Woongjin Chemical succeeded in developing the reverse osmosis membrane in 1994 and was the first to do so in Korea, the third country do so after the US and Japan.

Domestically, Woongjin Chemical accounts for more than 80% market share for residential RO elements mainly used for water purifiers, and claims more than 70% in the industrial market segment where RO elements are mainly used for processing industrial water.
